Travel Benefits

The current coverage period is from Sept. 1, 2024 – Aug. 31, 2025.

You're covered for up to 120 days per trip and up to $5,000,000 per lifetime, for an unlimited number of trips.

See your Travel Health Passport for benefit details and telephone numbers for emergency assistance. If you’re planning to travel, you must bring this document with you. Health-care providers outside of Canada may require this information before providing service.

You'll need to provide your student ID number and your Group Number (97180).

Please note:

• Students and their dependants aren't covered for out-of-province or out-of-country emergency services once they reach age 65.

• You must have Canadian provincial health-care coverage or equivalent coverage to make travel claims.

• International students (including US students) who aren't permanent Canadian residents may not use their travel health coverage when travelling to their country of origin.

Maximum of $750 per insured person per coverage period for all dental care.*

Reimbursements are based on the fees indicated in Dental Association Fee Guide for General Practitioners of the province in which the services are provided (these fees are suggested to general practitioners, not specialists).

Orthodontic treatments are not covered.

When the total cost of any proposed dental treatment is expected to meet or exceed $500, a treatment plan (obtained from your dentist) must be submitted to Desjardins Insurance for approval.

Vacations

Your Plan covers hospital, physician, and other services for emergency treatment of an injury or illness while travelling outside of the province in which you reside (including international travel). It covers reasonable and customary charges that are in excess of the provincial health-care allowance.

You’re covered for up to 120 days per trip, for an unlimited number of trips taken during the time you’re covered. The maximum is $5,000,000 per lifetime.

Exchanges & Internships

Students who participate in a recognized academic exchange or internship as part of their studies can use the travel coverage for the duration of their academic travels. The Plan also includes coverage for the first 120 days of their trip and for 120 days after the end of their exchange or internship.

To be eligible, you must remain a member of your student association, pay fees to your academic institution, and keep your provincial health-care coverage.

You must notify Studentcare before leaving on an exchange or internship, and you may need to provide supporting documentation.

Trip Cancellation

Your Plan includes coverage for trip cancellation in case of a medical emergency. You're covered up to $3,000 per trip for pre-paid, non-refundable trip expenses.

Trip Interruption

Your Plan includes coverage for trip interruption in case of a medical emergency. You're covered up to $7,500 for each trip taken during the policy year.

COVID-19 Coverage

Travel coverage also applies to COVID-19-related emergency medical expenses for travellers under the age of 50, even during a Level Three Travel Advisory (“avoid non-essential travel”) issued by the Government of Canada.

The Plan also includes coverage under the trip cancellation/interruption benefits for:

Trip cancellation due to a Level Three Travel Advisory (“avoid non-essential travel”), or a change from a Level Three Travel Advisory related to COVID-19 to a Level Four Travel Advisory (“avoid all travel”), issued by the Government of Canada for your destination after the trip is booked.
